Philip Watkins (@pswatkins)
co-pastor/teacher
Philip Watkins founded Lynchburg Christian Fellowship back in 2008. His desire for seeing college students live out their spirituality in a community has defined his passion for starting [lcf]. The campus church movement has been steadily growing for the past several years around the country. This movement impacted Philip while he was interning at Imago Dei in Richmond, VA. While working with Chris Backert (co-pastor at Imago Dei) he felt called to go out and plant a college church at Lynchburg College. Philip is married to the love of his life Brooke, and they have lived in Lynchburg the past several years. The newest addition to their family is a black lab puppy they adopted from the Humane Society. Besides playing on his new iPad or with his puppy, Philip enjoys hot dates with his wife, cooking, and anything else that involves food.
Jonah Bostian (@jrbostian)
co-pastor/worship leader
Jonah Bostian joined the [lcf] team in the early spring semester in 2009. Jonah’s experience both as a worship leader and within college/young adult ministry led him to team up with Philip. His calling for seeing people passionately worship God has echoed not only into the worship component, but also into the discipleship and coaching elements. Jonah is engaged to be married to the woman of his dreams, Charis. Besides talking in his North Carolina accent, Jonah spends most of his time hanging out with Charis or rocking out with his guitars (including the air guitar).
Student Leadership:
Every year [lcf] invites students to be a part of the leadership of this community in a variety of ways. Since [lcf] is a student-lead church, the students’ leadership and ownership over this community is vital. There are a variety of ways you can serve on leadership each year. If you are interested in serving or exploring the options within our student leadership team please email us through our contact page. Below are a few leadership positions that we accept students for every year:
worship leader (a student who deminstrates a passion for worship through music while also being able to lead practices, organize musicians, and be prepared for each responsibility accordingly.)
student coach (a student who has gone through the discipleship process and is now coaching a [home group] leader.)
[home group] leader (a student who has been a [journey group] leader and feels called to both assist in leading discussion and service based opportunities within our mid-size communities, as well as coach at least one [journey group] leader.)
[journey group] leader (a student who has been an active part of a [journey group] and is desiring to serve [lcf] through leading a small group with the purpose of accountability and prayer.)
intern (a student who has been active in [lcf] and is looking to learn more about full time through hands on opportunities such as coaching, event planning, educational experiences, and other ways that fit the skill set of the individual. This is typically a student who is looking to come on staff at [lcf] in the near future.)
